Photography

I've been getting more and more into photography in the past two years, and now own a Canon 300D. I bought the 300D just as the 350D was out, and have no desire to upgrade to a 350 or 400. I held the 400D at a nearby professional camera store as Canon were holding a demonstration of their L series lenses, and also held a 5D. That camera is HUGE! I wouldn't want to own a 5D unless I had a studio or was commissioned for sports photography, neither of which I have any desire for. The 400D is a smaller body, and felt really awkward. My own 300D is small for an SLR, but it *is* an SLR! If we want to go small, we'll buy a compact, right? Like the Fujifilm Finepix. I don't think Canon did the right thing downsizing their entry-level SLRs, but then again, what do I know?

(Yet I wouldn't say no to a 30D or 1D!)

I'm not a talented amateur photographer, but I still enjoy getting out there and shooting. When I started with the compact cameras, landscapes were never my thing, and I think it shows that they don't come naturally to me. I've been taking a lot of landscapes, just because I'm out there. Next week we're off to the Peak District (UK) with Boy, and I know that it's going to pose a great challenge for me to get even just a few great shots.

I'm disappointed that there haven't been any opportunities lately to shoot the kind of image that I think suits my tastes and style. I like focusing on the smaller things, leaving the bigger picture to the imagination, or to a fellow photographer. I am really an opportunist when it comes to photography, next week being the only time there's been a set plan to go and shoot a set subject. Boy and I do a lot of outdoor walking which is something I enjoy, just for being out there, but that hasn't leant itself to finding the smaller picture all too often.

I know I'm not a great photographer, I know that having such a lack of confidence in my shots doesn't help much, but this is hobby that doesn't come naturally that I think I'm going to stick at for a long time to come.

I think you give yourself too little credit. I just found your gallery and I instantly liked most of your photos! IMHO, you have a good eye for photos and should definitely keep at it. :)
